fladavid
I'm currently trying to fit a new Sony aftermarket head unit in place of my Ford cd6000 unit. I believe I had a problem with the quad lock connector as my Speakers worked intermittently so I decided to cut out the connector and wire it up with bullet connectors instead. I'm pretty sure I've wired them to the correct wires but can't be sure as I blew a fuse and now I can't get any power even after changing it. Car orange black=permanent live=yellow on radio Car green/black=earth=black on radio Car yellow/green=ignition live=red on radio Can anyone take a look at the photos and tell me if I have wired it properly and should the wires that are left cut, which I dont actually know what they do, and free be joined as they were in the quad lock? Is this why I'm not getting power because they've been left hanging? Or is there another fuse for the audio located somewhere else that i can't find? Also can someone tell me which colour speaker cables are which speaker in the doors? Many thanks.
Stoney871
As you have the quadlock with wires still in place try using my diagram to match up the wiring-Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
fladavid
Hi Stoney. I was actually using your diagram you sent previously to wire up, although it didn't have the three aux connections highlighted like this version. Is that where I'm going wrong? I have a blue cable from the radio I've left unconnected which is for powered antenna/ powered amp which I assumed didn't need to be connected as I dont have either. To your knowledge apart from the fuse on the radio and the audio fuse under the glove compartment their stent any others I should be looking at is there? I popped the fuse initially when stupidly I cut through the power cables with one cut, could I have blown an unrelated fuse by doing that? fladavid
Just realised the aux input connector and the phone input to Speakers connector haven't been touched by me. I left them hanging still attached wired as they were from factory assuming I didn't need them as they didn't connect in any way to the new radio. Stoney871
The image I posted was one I created a while ago but because I was away from my pc I scavenged that version off a previous post that displayed the image edited to highlight the aux connections for another member.I assume your radio has seperate aux and phone input facilities. There is usually only one main fuse on the footwell panel but occasionally another one on the stock radio tucked into the quadlock socket. Some aftermarket radios may require the battery and ignition power wires to be swapped.Definitely no need for the power aerial wire and amp trigger wire only if fitting an amp or subwoofer.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
fladavid
Just tested the wires and the orange/ black wire which should be the permanent live is live but the yellow/ green ignition live is dead and I've checked and changed the fuse. I wonder if I've blown some other fuse somewhere cutting through all the wires together, rather stupidly. Every other wire is now connected as it would have been in the quad lock, see photo. fladavid
Now tested every fuse in the car just in case and they are all live. I know there was proper power to the radio when the quad lock was in place, since I cut it off and blew the audio fuse I now dont have an ignition live. There is definitely not an inline fuse on that wire at all?
fladavid
Just scratching my head, and swearing, in the car and thought. Can I use one of these piggy back fuse connectors and run a new live cable from the audio fuse in the fuse box directly to the radio thus bypassing the dead yellow/green car ignition live? If so will it still work as it should with a turn of the ignition key? Alternatively can I run a fused live directly from the car battery to the radio, although I know this would make the radio live all the time and I'd have to make sure it was turned off when I leave the car. I just tried to use the cars permanent live into the radio ignition live but it didn't come on so have to look to the suggestions above. fladavid
http://www.caraudioremoval.com/sourcing-a-12v-live-from-a-vehicles-fusebox.html Just used this website and now I have a permanent feed to the radio by doing as they said. Connecting the yellow and red wires on the radio together and connecting them both to the cars permanent live. Now can anybody tell me the speaker wiring configuration? What coloured speaker wires are connected to which door Speakers?
fladavid
Back to square one! Grrr. Cutting off the quad lock hasn't made the Speakers work any different at all. They are all off apart from the right front tweeter. The Speakers come on and off as a four sporadically, usually all on if the car has become hot and all off when its cold. It's bizzare. I can't see a way around this as I dont want to pull the car completely apart to check all the Speakers and wires. Anybody got a final idea why all four should work in tandem coming on and off sporadically?
