laumk7 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I checked on ford etis last night and there's some updates (quite a list if I'm honest), due for my car which is only 7 months old. So I phone my local ford dealership to get booked in only to be told to wait until my service and they'll apply the updates then... call me finicky but when I see updates to the brake system and such I want them applied NOW! Am I being finicky? Or shall I call them back and be insistent? My service isn't due until next March and I live in an extremely hilly area meaning stuff like brakes are applied a lot more than normal 2
MONDEO TXS 2.2 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I'd insist the updates are applied a.s.a.p. 2
laumk7 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 I called them back and insisted this time and I'm booked in for next week, anyone have any idea how long these updates take to be applied? Also comedy timing is was offered a winter check of tyres, oil, etc, I mentioned the car was just 7 months old and does it really need it?
MONDEO TXS 2.2 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If that offer is F.O.C. - take them up on it :) 1
laumk7 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Nope was a charge, 20 or 30 odd quid I think
MONDEO TXS 2.2 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Just check your tyre pressures, top up your screen wash & check your oil level & coolant level & give your Wiper Blades a quick degrease with vinegar & save the £ :) 2
jmurray01 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Considering only 15 years ago it was common place to be driving around without so much as ABS, I don't think the updates are going to be life-saving, but you are definitely entitled to them and the peace of mind that they will bring. As for a winter check - that's just an excuse to get a bit of money in the old back pocket. You can check everything yourself. If you are concerned about driving in a hilly area in winter though, have you thought about winter tyres? All the fancy electronic braking systems in the world won't make summer tyres (if that is what you have) grip on snow. 3
laumk7 Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 I think I've got all season tyres on there? I dunno tbh? If the weather gets too bad tbh I won't be going anywhere, it's not unknown for businesses and schools to close during the times of heavy snow around here
jeebowhite Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I dont think you were being finicky, to be fair if the update is there it should be applied as soon as possible within reason. Expecting you to wait months on end is unreasonable. Whilst I see where Jamie is coming from, I am very much of the impression, they don't release updates unless they are needed. As such, if I pay for a safe car, I expect it to be safe, and to the description. 1
alexp999 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The reason they don't routinely update is because, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If you are not experiencing any issues that need fixing then by applying updates it has the potential to introduce new unexpected problems, at which point they then have an unhappy customer. It could also be an update just to simply support a newer revision of module, so it will have no effect loaded on to the old revision. Not that I don't like having the latest software, there is often a benefit, depending on the module being updated, but just trying to explain why they will not update unless absolutely necessary. 3
laumk7 Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 Sync voice is being a little madam at the moment, no longer seeming to understand clear instructions. And I'm still get that odd intermittent beep as if something is wrong, the message depress clutch to start engine pops up as if engine has previously already been started but this is when I've only just unlocked the car! (Car is push button start and start stop fitted as standard - tit x) Anyone know approx how much these updates should cost me?
jeebowhite Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Are you in warranty as they should be free. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk 1
alexp999 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Are you in warranty as they should be free. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk Only to fix a problem. If there are no problems, you have to pay for updates. 1
jeebowhite Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Seriously? That is very disappointing... Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
alexp999 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 The dealers have to claim back the cost of warranty work from Ford. If Ford do not approve then they do not pay. So if a dealer does updates which don't fix a problem for free, then they are either swallowing the cost, or making up a problem (which is unlikely as it would jeopardise their franchise if Ford found out). 2
laumk7 Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 My car is only 7 months old so hopefully can be done under warranty, though tbh speaking to a different dealer than my local ( one I bought the car from top be precise), they're telling me the updates aren't necessary :( I've booked in anyway to get the two little niggles looked at
