Petrol Pump Clicking When Filling Up Before Tank Was Full?

I was filling up my car with petrol today when my tank was nearly empty, but as soon as I started filling the petrol pump kept clicking (like it would when the tank becomes full) and I had only put in £5. Was wondering if this had happened to anybody else with their Fiesta Ecoboost or could it have possibly just been a faulty pump!

Thanks

They do that sometimes. Try tilting and twisting the pump slightly until normal filling resumes.

It'll click when you hold the pump at a certain angle.

as the nossel detects the fill level, if a splash of petrol comes back and hits the nossel then it will click out, to stop any over spilling, this is a common thing to happen just let it settle for 2 seconds and go again, when i fill up even after it clicks i keep going for about another 10 clicks then i know its really full not just splashed back and thinks its full

Once inserted let the weight of the hose tilt the nozzle until it rests, that's the angle you need.

Actually when I let the weight of the hose tilt the nozzle it usually clicks all the time. For me I've found that lifting the hose just slightly (around half an inch or such) works wonders.

I don't know if the hoses in Denmark are different from those in UK though - if they are my advice is probably quite useless :-D

I always found that if I held it it clicked, I had to let it 'drop' to fuel normally.
