So i paid 2350 for a 2010 fiesta zetec s 1.6 diesel recently. 72k miles so i thought a very good deal.

How ever

Found it needs new air con pipe and now wants the lower arms, inner tie rods and track rod ends doing.

Gonna set me back a pretty penny

Any other horror stories of buying what appeared to be a sound car that then all of a sudden needed a bomb spent on it?

Your car is 14 years old, can't really expect perfection. Try finding a decent independent garage without main dealer rates. Still cheaper than an EV!

Got quoted 560 for the inner tie rods, teack ends and a lower arm.

Gonna do the arm myself but not farting with the gater clips but can source thr parts and get somrone to fit them.

Will attempt the air con pipe myself

My main gripe isnt doing it, its that theres no guides on how to do it.

Youd have thought since 2008 with youtubes and forums existence that someone would have a demo of nearly every job but the air con never seems DIY.

A/C isn't DIY for a reason. The gas used is highly dangerous, and can cause potential blindness. Of all the jobs need doing, the A/C is the one I'd farm out to an A/C specialist. (Though it does use the cheaper R134a gas)

The main pipe, dual pipe. From the compressor to the heat exchanger and the front rad bit. Its 3 bolts. Im not paying someone £60 to £80 an hour, for 2 hours labour to fit a pipe.

Compared to the price of a white stick, it does seem quite reasonable, still, it must be fun using a guide dog, they're awfully cute...

Found a place who will do what I need. Less than £600 for everything compared to the first place who wanted 550 for tie rods, track ends and a lower arm. Rediculous.
