I hated the Cortina being replaced by the jelly mould Sierra and never grew to like them.

It's funny how divisive the looks were back then. I was involved with fleet vehicles at the time and loads of "user-choosers" opted for the "run-out" edition of the Cortina where they could.

At least though, the Sierra was a similar type of car, particularly when they added the saloon version, and it didn't have the same name. Personally I quite liked it and imo it was an infinitely better handling car.

Back to the new "Capri" I see that prices have now been announced starting at £42,075 for the base 250 mile range version (which isn't available yet),  £48,075 for the longer range and £56,175 for 4wd.

I haven't checked it myself, but according to press reports the 1969 Capri's starting price of £890 would be equivalent to about £14,000 today, though the range then started with a 1.3 of just under 60 bhp iirc.

This £42k seems to be the new "norm" for a medium sized EV, with the possible exception of some Chinese brands which are due to be hit by tariffs anyway.

Meanwhile sales of new cars to private buyers continue to fall, and sales of used/nearly new cars continue to increase.

I'm much more impressed with Renault's effort at bringing back a name from the past. The Renault 5 was a small hatchback and they're recreating it as - a small(ish) hatchback, just electric!

I can see the Renault 5 in the design, when I heard the new Capri was coming, I saw pictures that looked similar to it, not sure where they went?

I've seen a series of design study pictures somewhere on the internet which showed the old Capri slowly morphing into this creation. At the halfway point it was obviously different but, like the Renault, you could still clearly see the link. Perhaps you'd seen that mid-point image.

Pretty sure I've seen a Fiesta with Audi Allroad style bits of plastic over the arches and sills & slightly jacked up. No idea if it's a Ford thing or the owner's mods.

Anyway, this monstrosity is not a Capri! Don't care what Ford says. Too many happy memories with my black 2.8i to accept this nonsense.

Mine even had DIY blackout windows with air bubbles to match the pepper pot wheels.

Since when did a Capri have 4 doors, and stand nearly as tall as the driver? I hate the BMW 'Mini' but at least the first version bore a resemblance to the original. This may be a decent vehicle (ugly front end and all) but The Professionals wouldn't touch it with a pile of cardboard boxes. NOT a Capri.

You gotta love nostalgia. Throw in a woman sucking seductively on a Cadbury Flake, and you had it all... 😁

The Capri looks so uncomfortable on the B road at around 3.30.  Plus they've failed to use to use the visors and are getting blinded by the sun.

I don't think it's all that different to car ads today.  A load of BS about features that seemed 'good' at the time but were quickly surpassed by the next lot of tech.  Although nowadays every car seems to be a doing a barrel roll along any road.  I assume it's meant to make them look more dynamic but it's a disaster for vertigo sufferers!

Crapri image off Facebook! Says it all over this crappa thing.

Can anyone remember this Ford advert ? When the new Escort RS2000 was released.

When Ford announced this brand new escort was going into production they asked the general public for help and they wanted the bestest/cleanest MKII RS2000 to be in the advert, but it had to be 'black' ....some months on they found such a minter and Ford collected it off the owner and told him it will be looked after, owner was really angry to see what they'd done to his beloved joy, covered it in a layer of dust 😲 From what I read the owner got his Escort back which looked 'clean' at first glance but the white dust was everywhere, on the inner wings/in the boot/door seals....even inside his car, he complained and demanded it is thoroughly cleaned, the white dust was talcum powder.

Even looking back through rose-tinted specs, it wasn't the greatest handler imo.

Yeah me too pal, as a past owner of a MKII RS2000 my blood is set in stone with the MKII.

When the new RS2000 came out our neighbour got a grey metallic one, looked superb then he was driving some 1.1 fiesta popular plus thing, he'd written off his new escort within a week....lol

In the 80s, my boss got himself a new Capri 3 liter S, and had the courage to lend me it for a weekend whilst he was away. I remember taking a roundabout a bit faster than legal, the tail end slid out and scared the bejesus out of me! At the time, I owned a Mk1 Fiesta XR2, I thought all cars behaved like my XR2, they didn't 😂 I drove the Capri no faster than 20mph rest of the weekend!
