United2468
I've got a cracked upper honeycomb grill on my fiesta that's Matt black. I've purchased a new one from online but it's glossy. Do they do a Matt one as can't seem to find one anywhere!
Ian Lanc
Son has a 7.5 Fiesta and his front grill is gloss black, so is his girlfriends, maybe your cracked grill is not genuine, just my choice here but the gloss grill looks far nicer than matt.
TomsFocus
I can't remember seeing a genuine matt grill on a Mk7.5 either. Even the ST grill is gloss I think.
Eric Bloodaxe
Always loads for sale on AutoTrader etc but I've never seen a matt one either.
StephenFord
If it's really bugging you, a can of matt black paint should sort you out, but like others, gloss is a far more durable finish for a front grill...

Sure it's easy to paint matt

For some reason Ford seem to have gone for semi-matt finishes on the wheels and grille of the Fiesta Mk 8.5 which are a pain to keep clean.
Ian Lanc
23 hours ago, Garrydhu said: Sure it's easy to paint matt Not really! Firstly its plastic so you just can't bang on a can of matt or satin paint onto it.....The plastic has to be thoroughly prepared/keyed & degreased ....Then a few coats of specialist plastic primer - Then the top matt or satin coat on top, even then you can't guarantee the painted part will look good for ages, it'll chip easy by stone chips, any wax on painted parts is terrible to get off. Just spraying the plastic will lead you into a world of hurt about a year on, the paint will soon start to crack, then flake 😞 Even with certain cans which say can be sprayed directly onto plastic without a plastic primer is a no no, one of the best ways to accidentally blow off sprayed on paint is by the use of a jet wash and everyone gives them a go.

I have that experience, though I cheat - I get it done by a proper bodyshop LOL My wheel trims use to be silver, but a bodyshop painted them gloss black for me, that was almost 5 years ago - good as new! 1
Ian Lanc
8 minutes ago, StephenFord said: I have that experience, though I cheat Done a few wheel trim sets in the past, lovely gloss lacquer to boot, brother in law asked me to do his Vauxhall trims, blimey they was in a state and needed loads of fillering, finally got there and got them looking better than brand new, brother in law was over the moon and gave me a large bottle of whiskey for my troubles, he proudly refitted the trims to the car and it made the car look brand new, his wife takes the car to work the next day....she kerbed all four of them 😞 brother in law blew a gasket and told me i'm not repairing them, sending the missus to buy a set of trims out of her own money, she wasn't happy with that as it cost her £100 for four. 1

Brother in law dragged his wife out the house pointing at the trims, all she said was....''They only wheel trims for god sake with upturned eyes''......Brother in law said it has taken Ian a whole week to make them look new and he's not doing them again because you are paying, she never imagined that each trim cost her £25 each, would have liked to have seen her face in the dealership.
TomsFocus
I had no idea people went to such effort with wheel trims. I've bought several sets of alloys with tyres for less than £100 over the years!

However, the steel wheels don't need air checked for months on end, they just maintain pressure. Also, the constant concern for 'kerbing' is totally removed. I've spent £1500 in the past on alloys, but am a firm convert now on steel wheels!
TomsFocus
Tyres are the same size on Focus 16" alloys so virtually no chance of kerbing those either. The ones on my Golf were refurbed before I bought it, and they still look fine 6 years later. That includes one very poor judgement at an unfamiliar fuel station during the pandemic. A set of pumps had been removed from the end, but the raised pavement section was still present... Totally missed it as I was checking for cars at the exit, OSR wheel went right over the corner of it!! Feared the worst, but not a mark on the alloy, just a little scuff on the tyre sidewall. I am (was) generally careful not to kerb wheels though. Not just for aesthetic reasons but it damages the tyre as well. Always makes me cringe as a pedestrian when I hear someone scuffing a wheel along the kerb.
Eric Bloodaxe
1 hour ago, TomsFocus said: I am (was) generally careful not to kerb wheels though. Same here. Unfortunately I noticed recently that I had picked up a scrape on the rim of my n/s/r. Don't know when/where it happened, but I suspect the edge of a pothole. Inevitable I suppose. Some of the ones around me are a lot deeper than the sidewall depth of the 40 profile tyre and as some (most) roads are more pothole than tarmac** they're hard to avoid. As it is you see people swerving all over the place as if they're drunk! (** I was amused today to see that the Council have imposed a 40 limit on a "road" that was a 60. You'd have to be nuts to be driving at 40 on there anyway, let alone 60!😀)
