iantt
It's not the oil that's not fit for purpose, it's the modern diesel engine emmisions that's not fit for purpose esp with short journey low mileages. Should have bought a petrol engine car doing low miles.

I'm sure it's 12 months 10,000 miles on a Diesel (my Focus 1.5 Ecoblue was) It's possible it's still on the original oil

So I would expect it to still be on the original oil. The 'intelligent oil life' oil change can be completed outside of that, as soon as the oil degrades as in the case of the OP. I booked it in when it was 12 months old for a service and ford advised it was 2 year service period. My argument is that if the warning comes on after 6000miles then surely the oil ford gas put in from new is not fit for purpose.

The level of oil degradation is measured by a sensor. oil degrades when it gets contaminated by moisture that isn't burnt off or excess diesel that's used for DPF regeneration. If you spend all day on the motorway racking up the miles, the oil will last 2 years. If you do lots of short drives in stop-start traffic, the oil will degrade before that 2 years. It's your driving style that's the problem, not the oil. There is a specific 'oil only' service for exactly this situation.

If you're only driving it around town, on stop start journeys, budget to change the oil at least every 12 months
