“Immobiliser malfunction, service now” with other lights

Hi Guys,

hopefully get some help off of here before I spend £100’s at a Ford garage. Sometimes when I go to start my Fiesta Mk7.5 Zetec S (2015) I will get the immobiliser malfunction pop up along with other warning lights including engine service now, traction control, hill start assist etc. and my car won’t turn on. Randomly after trying 5-40 times it will come on and the lights will go away luke magic. This also happens while driving where the warning lights come on and I’m unable to accelerate the car meaning I’d have to pullover and put on my hazards. This happens regularly at about 2-4 times a day id say. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated. I’ve also mucked about with the fuses and they all seen fine.

Thanks, Brandon

This sounds very much like the problem of the dry solder joints on the instrument cluster. Unfortunately for you that only affects models before 2013 and so it is very unlikely to be the cause of your problem.

It is probable that this is a case of water ingress in to the Body Control Module (BCM) which is part of the passenger compartment fuesbox. You need to disconnect the car battery before investigating.

The BCM is behind/under the glovebox and not easy to work on. Remove all the connectors and look for signs of water ingress and/or greenish corrosion of the connector pins.
