ksnewcastle
Hi Folks My son has had his Fiesta for two years and it has been great - it has done 170k and only cost him £500. One of the problems the car has always had during the time he has owned it is with the car central locking popping back to unlocked. This doesn't happen all the time, the car seems to go through phases. When it is going through a bad phase what happens is, whether he uses the remote fob to lock, or actually uses the key in the drivers door, the car locks with the usual clunk sound but then unlocks with another clunk. He has to open the door and shut it and try again, sometimes 20 times (not great late at night) to eventually get it to work. We've decided to take the plunge and strip the door and replace what might be failing. Can anyone advise which components we should replace? Thanks very much in advance. As Neb_engineer says its most likely the small microswitch located inside the door lock. The lock is not meant to be opened up, but it can be. Just be ready for the odd spring and a few bits and bobs that will want to fall out when you take the cover off. Its a good idea to take a few photos of the lock as soon you open it up. The switch is often a V5 microswitch, common on eBay. ksnewcastle
Thanks for your replies guys. Would it be a lot simpler to get a second hand lock/actuator and swap them over?

You can get the lock mechanism (second hand) from auto recycle center for about £10👍 or a new one from ford for about £
ksnewcastle
So is the micro switch inside one of these?... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIESTA-MK6-2006-DRIVERS-SIDE-FRONT-5-door-CENTRAL-LOCKING-DOOR-CATCH-2003-TO-08-/164957256986?var=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338268676&toolid=10044&customid=Cj0KCQjwl_SHBhCQARIsAFIFRVWCaFY9t044KWmJ3VEyZbJqUs-9JFF-oydntkudsm_kRI6jsVg-QSAaAjBjEALw_wcB&nma=true&si=DPlcdLQEmWUu0ZoRwmAtTEVaD4s%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
unofix
Yes, it's inside of the locking system. It detects the door is 'ajar' and also the door is latched for the alarm system.
ksnewcastle
Thanks for all your replies so far! When we disassemble the door and push the plastic window clips through the window, is it straightforward to get them back in place when we re-assemble? When we disassemble the door and push the plastic window clips through the window, is it straightforward to get them back in place when we re-assemble? from experience, it’s easier to put it back in than to take out. I had to do some door repairs for the passenger regulator and found it to be a nightmare on my own. Should be much easier with a second person. ksnewcastle
Hi again folks. We did a preliminary investigation. The window is held by a metal clamp which contains two nuts. It also utilises a single plastic peg sticking through the glass - please see attached photo. The peg expands to fill the hole using a plastic center-pin. We stopped as we couldn't figure out how to manipulate the peg/pin in the correct way. Any advice?
