The 1.0L ecoboost produces more power if that's what you mean. The 1.1L is a NA engine and only has 85hp. It's basically the replacement 1.25L engine that was fitted for donkeys years.

The ecoboost in the Mk 8 also has the benefit of 6 speed box and rear disc brakes, and is available in 100, 125 and 140ps varieties as opposed to 85ps for the 1.1. The 1.1 has actually now been dropped from the latest Fiesta price list, though that's not an issue if looking at 67 plates.

My Mrs had the old 1.25 for some years and it was fine for what she wanted - basically short local trips only. It flagged a bit on hills though. I haven't tried the 1.1 but expect it would be similar and one of the Ecoboosts would probably be a better bet it longer trips are involved.

I think the 1.1 is still available in the Trend unless thats been dropped as well? I think theres also a very rare 68 odd horsepower version as well. The 1.0 ecoboost is definitely the one to go for, probably either the 125 or 140 versions.

Just being pedantic here but the mk8 ecoboost 100 comes with rear drum brakes. Its only the 125, 140 and the 120 diesel that come with rear disc brakes IIRC.

I ran various 1.25's for years and they were all pretty good at what they were intended for but not particularly economical and had a strange tendency to run badly (flat spots) when driving the econ compressor.

My 100PS ST-Line X has discs all round...

I would go with the EcoBoost if i had to choose, not heard of a lot of the 1.1 but have the 1.25.

The older engine seems to be tried and tested and you know the faults if any as in mine i have the 1.6 it's the old 1.6 Ti-vct but a solid engine in my 5 years.

Have a read on here as a few problems popping up on the Eco's now mainly Turbo stuff what i have read and heard.

As does my friend's 100ps Titanium. Not yet figured out if the revised rating of the lower powered ecoboost (100 down to 95ps) has meant any change to the brakes. I wouldn't have expected so, but nobody expected the multi-link rear suspension  to disappear from most Mk 4 Focuses either...........😀

Latest list shows ecoboost only (new 95 ps version with 6 speed, 100 now being only on autos.).

Iirc the 70ps version was initially available on the Style, and the 85ps on the Zetec, both trim levels since deleted from the price list. These n/a engines had a higher CO2 figure than the ecoboosts, which I would guess is the main reason for their demise, while the downrated 95ps version of the Ecoboost just sneaks under 95g/km.

There have certainly been a lot of revisions/deletions on the Fiesta in a relatively short time, the 120ps diesel also having gone.

I would go for the boosted.

My wife's old Yaris 1.33 and her current 1.0 Fiesta both have the same 100Ps.  But the ecoboost has much more torque across the range so drives much nicer, and is better on mpg

Not really relevant to the original post but an interesting thing I just spotted, is how quoted CO2 figures have altered in various price lists. Just taking my ST-L X 140 5 door as an example, CO2 is shown on lists as follows:

November 2019:                  109g/km

July 2019:                             112g/km

April 2019:                            112g/km

September 2018:                  116g/km

May 2018:                             117g/km

May 2017:                             102g/km  which is also the figure recorded in my V5C when the car was registered (1 March 2018).

Guess it shows how difficult it is to be definitive about facts/figures even over just a couple of years!

I guess the 1.1 is cheaper. so it depends how much difference there is. also depends on what your wife wants and if she needs the extra power for where she drives. My wife does about 1500 miles per year. she would not see any benefit of the extra power and to be honest I think she would tell me it is a bit scary.  She would probably prefer the 1.1, and I would if it was cheaper (cheaper when taking into account a few years extra road tax). Also 1.1 less likely to go wrong as much less complex engine. But maybe take into account possible value in the future when you want to sell it. The 1.1 maybe harder to sell.

I guess that sums it up quite nicely. If we were shopping for a car for my Mrs (who is pretty similar to yours as far as cars are concerned) we would probably be ok with the 1.1. As I mentioned above, would go for the Ecoboost if longer journeys were involved.

Don't actually see many used 1.1s on sale round here, those I have seen tend to be £1,000-1,200 less than an equivalent Ecoboost.

The 1.1 wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and no one will want to buy it when it's time for a new one (that's why Ford's dropped it, you can't give them away)

Go for the 100PS Ecoboost, it has the same torque as the 125PS, you only notice the extyra 25PS once you're over 4,000 RPM

The Titanium is very well specced
